Oozing Goo - The Lava Lamp Syndicate

Firefly Lava Light - I replaced the 25W reflective E17 bulb with a small 7W candelabra bulb. I remember seeing another variety of the firefly briefly at Spencer's, instead of a blue acrylic case it was just clear. The refracting squares are a thin roll of film on the inside of the blue acrylic around the glass jar and it can be removed if you wish.

Just scored the blue model of this lamp at thrift for $5 today! Thanks for the how-to-dismantle breakdown, I was looking at it like how the hell... how am I going to change the bulb on this thing?! Cool little lamp!

@Jonas I'd gladly trade it for that Aurora clock in your avatar!   I can't seem to find a nice looking Prisma clock for under $200.

I saw a blue Firefly on the 'bay just a few days ago for $27.99.

I originally was trying to see if the blue color was a thin film that could be peeled away and I was also wondering if I could replace the default silver glitter with iridescent mylar - that's what prompted me to open it and investigate. Going in through the bottom where the bulb is turned out to be a fools errand; there are 4 plastic latches going into the other middle plastic from the cylindrical shell. The top of the lamp is just fit on there very snugly. I lost my rubber mallet in the last move but I tapped the silver top repeatedly against the palm of my hand until it loosened - it's thick plastic so nothing cracked but exercise caution if you're going to attempt this. There is no glue on the inside anywhere either where the cap on the glass fits into the plastic top or around the edge of the blue plastic. When I put it back together it fits snugly again. I'm going to create another album with pictures of this open and disassembled.

How do you remove the cover on these? You're lucky, having a blue one; I have a pink one, but blue is much cooler. They're neat lamps, though.
