Looks like a pretty darn good glitter content too with no fading which often occurs with other euro glitters.
Sounds logical, the picture I have of the bottom looks like it screws off? if any body has these lamps please let me know so I know how to change the bulb or I will figure it out.
I THINK, though I'm not sure, that in all of these, the bulb is changed out the bottom, which would (if it's true) hint that the reason for the struts is to prevent the cap being removed.
Hey Jonas, YOU are a wealth of info! LOL! Someone else told me they thought it might be Bakelite as well. I should be able to tell when I get it. Thank you as always, Frank
The one you have is, I THINK, metal and Bakelite. I think the other two are mostly or entirely metal. I've seen the glitter ones of this style in silver/pale amber like yours, silver/golden and silver/red. The gray styles with the hat on top use slightly tapered bottles with big silver square glitters and multicolors on the bottle bottom. I forgot that there's another style, too, a gray metal cylinder on a wide, slightly convex foot, also with struts to hold the cap, also with silver/clear/multi.
Hey Jonas, Thanks for writing, I have been doing some research on these USSR lamps I have seen pictures of it in Black with Red glitter. I have seen pictures of the other 2 Russian lamps these are really great too! I would love to find these as well. Do you know if this is made of Metal?
USSR-made lamp, I believe it's called a Cosmos (English translation). I've seen brown, black or green cases. There's also a lava version using white lava in clear liquid with colors painted under the bottle that have a surprisingly nice effect on the lava (these are usually cloudy with age). There are also two other Russian designs, one having a conically-bulged base, the other with a spherical style, both in grey enamel with a witch's hat (think Orko from "He-Man") held to the base with three struts. One wonders whether the USSR glitters had a reason for all having struts keeping the cap in place...!
I love his in Black with the Red glitter VERY COOL! thanks for sharing that info. I can't wait to get this lamp.
I would say 1960's, even 70's. This member has a photo of his here:
