This was was a great score nearly ruined by poor packaging. I got this on eBay for pretty cheap - guessing due to the poor main photo, most people didn't know this was a black Squiggle. However, as soon as I saw the package on my front door, I *knew* there would be trouble. The box was too small for a lamp that size.
Sure enough, when I took the base out, it was smashed. I was so sad! I thought it might be able to be bent back, but I emailed the seller first, noting the poor packaging. I was refunded the entire amount immediately, which I did not expect. I was only hoping for a partial refund, but was also prepared to send the lamp back, too. After the refund, I did attempt to bend the base back and it worked - mostly. It's nearly perfect, but the globe doesn't sit 100%, but it's pretty darn close! Most people wouldn't catch it.
The globe is hard to capture, color-wise. It's greenish-blue liquid, kinda dark teal or turquoise when off. The lava is green - kinda snot green, or cooked mint green - I've seen this color before. The wax is kinda shot - has the white stuff around it that never mixes back in. The lamp was totally cloudy when I got it, but it's been clearing (I've been running it every day). So, that's the story! This lamp came from an estate sale - that's about all I know about it. I've never seen the color combo before though. My guess is that this is a late 60s lamp due to the low wax level.

That squiggle is pretty! I love the matte finish. Lovely lamp Erin!
Erin, you lucked out on that one and it looks beautiful!!! It looks pretty clear in the pic and the lava doesn't look bad. I really hate to mess with the vintage, even when the lava looks like it's been around. I luv the black squiggles!!! Nice score!!! I wish I could have had the luck you had with bending my bashed bases back. I just got 2 totally destroyed from ebay. I did however make them useable where as before you couldn't even place a globe on them. Now just the bottoms are pretty bad. I'm still debating on what to do with them. First was going for a bondo and sand/paint job, but now I may order a sheet of that high heat decal like stuff and wrap one. See how it turns out.....Again, it's a beauty!!!!
P.S. I wish people would use common sense when they ship thing such as lava lamps!!!!
Dream lamp right there!!
Great "fixing a packing disaster" job, Erin. Just looking at the pic, I can't even tell anything is wrong. Lovely...
Thanks Bill and Kirk! I'm happy with it. :) No popping the top... for now.
I thought it might be an easy fix to bend back, but you never know with these painted bases. These bases bend easily, sadly.
Congratulations, Erin! And way to go in fixing a bad packaging, near-disaster.
