When flipped upwards, those shutters are light canceling. That window also faces the back of the house, so direct sunlight does hit them for long each day.

Okay on the shutters, you think that is enough protection for them. Wouldn't UV damage still occur over time?

Nah, I usually keep those shutters closed. They were open for the picture.
