(Lava Chat) |
Thank you, Derek! He hated this lamp, and I can see why, It was cloudy as cement, and the lava beaded up into tiny balls and floated in the middle. I seriously thought a gookit was in order. Derek actually sent this to me for the shipping, which I still don't have a total on, so I don't know how much to pay him back! He just wanted to get rid of it, so hopefully he won't be mad that this lamp was hiding under all that dead algae. :p I thought that wax was fried, but it's not...it was just the water.

Well, I have another one in perfect condition. Glad this went to a good home. Will post pics of the good one later.
Absolutely there was an orange/yellow, color number 02. Until about 1970 or thereabouts, 02 used ORANGE lava, whereas 06 red/clear used a gentle rosy red. In the 70s and onward, both 02 (still marketed as orange/yellow) and 06 used deep RED wax, just with either clear or yellow liquid (the switch to 80s red/yellow was in name only!)
Was this by chance one of the old orange/green models? I don't remember there being an orange yellow.
It looks great, Loren. Love the orange!!
It's a crap shoot when replacing the liquid in the old Centuries. I got two of them to work, but it's not perfect. I can't even remember how I did it either. I used McCormick's dye in one of them (The Commander) and even thought I've dyed it yellow TWICE, it still fades on me. What dye do you use for the liquid?
Thanks, Erin! I AM SO HAPPY with it right now! I have wanted to just SEE what a vintage century looked like when it was new...let alone own one...let alone in ORANGE! :p I'm running it for a bit in clear liquid, just because. Oh, and all I did was pour out the old water, and replace it with distilled water and rock salt. I can't believe how well it worked! It still doesn't look as good as the one you did before, but it's a work in progress! I have coveted that lamp of yours...I must admit. Hee hee...I still can't believe it. I only fixed it today, and already I've run this lamp 4 times. I can't stop looking at it!
How did you replace the water Loren? It looks GREAT!
I've already gotten the water even clearer, and improved the flow a little bit! When the water is perfect, then I'm going to re-dye the water yellow. I want to see it as close to the way it originally was as possible!
Part II pictures coming soon!
