What type of lamp is it, and what bulb are you using?  My assumption was that the 'grainy' appearance resulted from the wax not being completely molten - it may be the bulb you are using is does not heat the lamp enough.

I keep it on for the 6 hours, I've done it for a couple of days now but nothing's changed

 A few of my lamps have this characteristic, but the 'grainy-ness' dissipates as it gets warmer.  How long do you run the lamp for?
