I thought they must be hand painted. I think this is my favorite lava lamp that I own. I filled the tray with the clear and red flat "stones". It looks pretty neat. =)
Not much squiggle action near the top of the base cone! Those were all done by hand, so they vary from heavy to light, round loops to jagged squiggles, etc. between lamps. These were not sold with flowers; the "enterprising homemaker" (3rd-funniest Lava ad copy of the 60s) could "change plantings to suit any occasion," as long as they were silk or plastic. I've also seen someone fill the bowl with a very short string of mini Christmas lights, then fill with clear glass pebbles.
