Just my opinion: unless the cap's finish is really damaged, if it was my lamp I'd leave it. The caps do often fade a bit, but the shiny gold finish is original... The base is real American Walnut, and I've had luck rubbing even scratched ones with mineral oil or teak oil, right over the finish. Afterward, they almost glow.
That Enchantress is one of my favorites. :) It's super clear and from the 80s...which is not something I've seen many of (80s lamps).
As for the Consort, I'm going to try refinishing the base and re-spraying the cap.
