Good afternoon now, lol!!! And on the FEATURE, you DESERVE every minute of it Frank!!!!
Good morning Carol, I agree the old lamps are so much better than todays crap!. But I love everything old,I collect mid century. I am proud and GRATEFUL!! for what I have as I know a lot of these lamps are very hard to find. Thanks for the congrats, this is my second time to be featured.
Wow!!! I can't believe how old these lamps are and they are still operational!! Amazing how things made back in the day lasted!!! Even the fact that the fluid hasn't evaporated!!! Could you imagine trying to save one of our modern day lamps for 40 years for your children? Frank, you should be VERY proud, which I'm sure you are!!! You have a STUNNING collection!!
CONGRATS on being featured!!!
LOL!! How do you think I feel! thank god the bed is nearby!
Rich, it's kind of confusing, really, but here goes. a "heat tape" is a flexible heating element; they're often wrapped around water pipes to prevent freezing. Now, a specific kind of lamp was made, likely in the late 1960s, by a Chicago firm called "Heat Tapes, Inc." about which we know absolutely nothing else. They made two types: the Stardust Lite (a glitter lamp, pictured 2nd from left) and the Bubble Lite, a knock-off lava lamp, for which I figure they got sued! Their models used the same globe and cap Lava bought for the Consort and similar lamps. Frank has at least one of the extremely few known Bubble Lites, and attests that the formula is obviously not Lava's work.
Heat tapes? Is that a brand name or description? What does it mean?
Hey Brad, Thanks, I recently got that Red Heat tapes was looking for a Red one for a while. The other Heat tapes lamp is Purple, a hard color to find, a beauty too!
