My base box is in great shape. Um...the other box is in 12 pieces. :p Totally thrashed. I also had to dig into the sides of the styro-foam block that the globe sat in, so that I could get my hands up under it. Once we got it lifted, it wasn't that bad, but picking it up off the floor was really hard, especially with a bad back.

That is what I did.  Went (carefully) down the seam to get the globe out.

True Jim. Asked him the same thing. He said to cut along the edges or seams then lay flat and store away. The first one got ripped to shreds. XD

Keeping my boxes, but I don't see any feasible way to get the globe out of the box without dismantling the side of the box.  Next to impossible to lift it straight up and out.

@Tim, Susan told me the globes weren't inspected down below so as to preserve the cartons. That's why mine was overlooked as this flaw was close to the base.. Lamphead told me to keep the boxes for these as it will increase the selling value in future years. I ripped the first box but will be careful with the next. Fold and store.

Yes Jethro. From what I understand the freight company will pick up the old globe at time of delivery.

Oh, OK.  Do you have to give the old globe back?  I will inspect mine for a similar problem.

I was told all of these globes were inspected by a person who used to work at the factory in chicago (lava simplex-lava world). Hmmmm.

Agree with the other guys - I would certainly be raising this one to Susan.  Didn't look as bad in the other pictures, but it looks not so good in this one.  This part of the globe will be taking on a bit more heat as well, and I would be concerned about this fracturing.

Ya, that should be addressed.  May or may not be a safety issue but why should you have to live with a sub-par globe.
