I was thinking about this the other day. Laser cut two big disks of acylic, glued them together with silicone, and used a syringe to fill it with oil/water. Didn't realize I needed to be removing air from it the first time, so the pressure built up and caused multiple leaks. let it drain, pulled it apart, removed the silicone, and tried a second time.More silicone, injected fluid, removed air. "The spiking phase looks incredible in this. It's always my favorite part, because it only happens once per cycle. How long did it take to fully flow and what temps were you seeing? Awesome work. I gotta continue working to get mine made."

"Looks really cool, you always have the most creative lava lamp concepts! My vote would be for red liquid with yellow wax because the red liquid would make it look orangeish and the color would shift as it moves through the globe."

Something Interesting About Me:
Professionally, I specialize in architectural rendering, visualization, graphics, and design. For hobbies, you can do a lot with a laser cutter, 3D printer, and a few woodworking tools in the garage. I've built a suitcase with an arcade inside, night vision goggles, collect mech watches (even built a few of those), and now design my own lava lamps.

USSR 'Rocket' Lava Lamp. I love the interesting design with the top/bottom connected with support rods, angular feet (like a lunar lander), and straight form.

Hey I just read that you built a suitcase with an arcade inside. Vey Cool! What hardware did you use? For years I had the idea of buildin an N64 into a suitcase of the size made to fit vinyl lp's inside and I had a hard time finding a monitor which would fit inside, not cost much and run on 12 volts or less. In the end I sold the n64 with all the games but I sort of regret it.
