Oozing Goo - The Lava Lamp Syndicate

I don't collect lamps I collect the moving color lava globes that go in lamp bases. The majority of my over 50 lamps are 32oz Lava Lite Midnights simply because at night the base and cap fade into the background and the moving colors take center stage. 9 of my lamps have silver bases to cluster around the silver base Grande.

When I started my moving color collection 2/2008 my original plan was to acquire 25 midnight clear/colored wax lamps to put in black bookcases making The Wall o Moving Color. I have the bookcases but have put that plan on the back burner for now as a different opportunity has presented itself that I find more interesting.

I own 2 small cottages on the Shenandoah River in VA. The smaller cottage faces the river and the whole front of the house is windowed.I have been renting the house but the renters aren't' paying rent so I have sued for eviction. They have to be out by next Friday. I have decided not to rent again.

The cottage is going to be my art studio set up with arty supplies, fun stuff, tv, stereo, a couple of futon sofas with a good bottle of wine, cheese and fruit in the fridge.

The first thing I intend to do is run shelves along the bottom of the front windows and set up 25 clear/colored wax lamps in clumps to enjoy moving color inside, outside and from the river.

I have also purchased a rather large quantity of neon hot wire in assorted colors to do something with at the cottage in or out not sure what yet comma but I have enough to wrap the whole cottage in neon or even a large outside neon sculpture or just drape them thru the trees if I want to! Ha! All possibilities are open at the moment.

At 56 years young I can honestly say my life has expanded in a positive way since putting lotso moving color in my life daily. The physical and mental changes have been distinct and I'm fully aware the moving lava goo colors have been the cause.
So... I have been experimenting with specific colors and combination's of colors to enhance or reverse life's ebbs and flows. I'll be on this color therapy experiment for a while as I'm finding the results so inspiring and positive.

Last night I put all the blue fluid lamps together at command central where I compute, watch tv, listen to music and all the purple fluid lamps including the Grandes in one of my front windows .TV was the only other light on in the house. I live on a single lane dirt road, one way in/out with few cars going by but last night cars were slowing down, backing up and stopping to look at the moving color display coming from the little house on the hill.
Hahahaha!
The passers by have no idea the color things about to happen at the cottage next door!

Hahahaha!

Bohdan,
One of these days I'd love to ride up to Philly and spend a few hours with you, your lovely wife, protectors of lava dogs and of course your amazing collection. I'd really dig being the listener and looker while you tell and show where your lava madness has taken you.

Hey Lucy,
If you lived close by I'd have you over and we'd custom clump lavas and neon wire to our lava madness mood o the day then plop down in a couple of tree strung hammocks under the stars and admire our work ! Ha!
Both the lava lamps and neon wire can be easily and quickly moved around at will to create at will.
I'll let you know when Color Central is up and running then you let me know if you're ever passing thru northern Shenandoah Valley of VA and I'll hook you up.
Ha!

thats sounds wonderfull K.
i totally dig your ideas about colour enhancing or changing the mood. At one point of my life i could have really done with the theraputic soothing nature of lava.
if i lived near you i would quite happily sit outside all night watching the display!
(love the neon as well, can't wait to hear what you're gonna do with it)
