hi tim, (carboot lunar), i think the guy did know about about the lamp, and its value, (not ebay value) he had had it for 15 years, and loved it.he was,nt that bothered if he took it home, he would,nt give me a ballpark price,and wanted me to make a bid,so i thought go low, so slowly walking away,i said £50,to my surprise,he said OK. ( now this might sound awful) but i pointed out the dents on the cone,and the deal was done for £50. i would like to point outhat the guy was not stupid  he just loved his lunar. so after convincing him,i was not a dealer, or after a profit,just a lavalamp fan,that i would keep it forever, then the deal was done  all the best,  lee.
