Mathmos Astro Red-Violet and Green-Blue

Green-Blue has a temporary frosted bulb in it and it was on for only 2 hours so it's not warm enough yet. Violet-Red was working for 3 hours with the stock lamp but it's on for the first time.

I might upload another one where you can see them working as they should be.

Lava flow is just perfect on these two Astros, liquid is crystal clear and they look stunning in person. I have them against a dark coloured wall though so they look totally different with the lights on; which I tried to show in the video with ledstixx. I'm planning on making a led lighting behind the display, hidden, that lights up the wall just behind the lava lamps so their true colour shows up.

Love it or not the Astro lamp is a true style icon. I really love the newer ones with the polished bases.

Bohdan,

That bright light was just a temporary solution. Today, I made a permanent one with led strips and some basic soldering skills. It looks exactly like I want it to; I'll try to upload a video of my current setup this weekend. It looks so much better now. New back-light setup makes these two Astros look as they meant to be in the first place I believe.

ALPHA CENTAURI,

I do, absolutely, agree with your statement about Astro lamps. In fact, that was the reason why I choose Astro, also the history behind it. I really love the fact that this particular lamp came to this day, without negative alterations from 1963. This feels really odd, maybe too much sentimentality present with this kind of thought yet I seriously think that having such an item before my eyes urges me to fall into deep thoughts, very inspiring, boosting my creativity a lot.

I really can't wait to show you folks my new light setup, nothing spectacular of corpse but it's simply pleasant. Maybe that's because I made it from scratch and this makes me overly appreciative of it's nature.
