Making your own lava lamp

I have been looking at all the recipes and all the you tube videos and I came across the set of videos on you tube where a guy uses plain wax mixed with bees wax and two kinds of alcohol. That's it that's all. He didn't mix perc or oil with the wax. He didn't put any salt or detergent in the alcohol.

Does anyone have any experience with this method?

I have more time than money so I'm counting on your experiences before I start.

I work at a restaurant and would like to make a lamp out of an Absolut bottle for the bar.
