Oozing Goo - The Lava Lamp Syndicate

Hey all...great board you have here! :-)

I am considering buying a clear 14.5" (20oz.) Lava Lite glitter lamp and adding yellow food coloring to it, since they don't make them in yellow.

I have already tried altering a blue Lava Lite lava lamp with good results (adding yellow food coloring to a blue lava lamp, producing green fluid).

I just wanted to find out if anyone has tried altering a glitter lamp in this way.

Since I've never actually seen a 14.5" glitter lamp up close, I am guessing that the motion of the glitter occurs through convection (as opposed to there being some sort of motor inside the globe). I'm guessing a couple of drops of yellow food coloring should not cause any issues. Also, I'm assuming that the top of the bottle is sealed with a bottle cap, as with most lava lamps.

I am all ears if anyone has any thoughts on this.

Thanks! -)

Wow! That looks awesome! :-) Thanks for the info!
Tom, why a 20oz? Go for a 52oz & get TONS of glittery fun! Bohdan, thanks for the info on NOT dying the Wizards, I was planning on doing so! DOH! Glad to have read your pirece!
The 52oz. sounds awesome but, unfortunately, I just don't have enough room for it. When all is said and done, I'm going to have 2 glitter lamps, 2 lava lamps, 1 plasma lamp, and 2 neon signs. The bookcase which all of this is going on is only so large...LOL
Be prepared to expand your collection. The Oozing GOO-dness of lava can be quite addicting ;)
