Oozing Goo - The Lava Lamp Syndicate

I just rewired my Carlisle.  When I put the usual globe back on it, it is not quite right.  There are 3 blobs.  One at the top attached to the water level, one in the middle, and a half bubble attached to the coil.  Rarely is the large blob in the middle reattaching itself to the coil.  It slowly moves up and down, never breaking off.  I adjusted the angle of the bulb some yesterday and didn't make any progress.  Is it too hot or not hot enough?  I also have a dimmer, and made little progress with it as well.  Any suggestions?

The cap on the top? I've never heard that. I just felt the globe and it is soooo hot.
Since it is a Carlisle, does it have a screw-on cap? If so, don't try the aluminum UNDER the cap. lol There are times that I will cover the top 1/4 of a globe with aluminum to get a lamp going good (mainly in winter) I have an older globe that runs very slow also, heat will make it start faster but not run fast. I have used a 60 watt bulb on it and it doesn't speed the flow up, just makes it overheat quickly.
I used the socket from a 20 oz. lamp and just bent it. It does feel really hot. The dimmer just made it not flow at all. This is so weird.
I used parts from a 20 oz. lamp. I had to bend the arm so I have no clue exactly where it should be-should've noted that on the original parts! It is really hot to the touch, but I've tried a dimmer and that haults the movement even more.
No offence intended, just pointing out that older globes, before the early to mid 1990's had screw on lids, instead of bottle caps with a cover over that.
Is this a carlisle? I just looked a bit closer and my light bulb is so far to one side, almost touching the side. I'm thinking this is creating the issue? Once it cools I will see if I can push it further to the middle.
NO! I have to find a new arm to center it. Not looked too much cause we've been out of town, but hoping they are easy to find. I'll keep you posted!
Whoa, am I having one heck of a time finding an "arm" to center the bulb. Looking more closely at your picture I don't see an arm. Looks like your's is just suspended in air. Is it? I wonder if I pulled the wire tight enough to the side if it would be ok? I have been finding these things call hickeys. I wonder if they would work? I'm so frustrated-I miss my carlisle!
I've got it positioned in the center, lamps is flowing great, but I've not anchored the bulb. Luckily, if I don't move it around it is in the perfect place. Thanks for asking! I'm still watching ebay for a replacement carlisle base though!
Not sure what that is? My husband used this big foamy white glue, everything seems to melt.
JB Weld is used for car radiator repair, among other things. It can be found in auto parts stores or Walmart's automotive section
