vintage lite has wax stuck at the top

Good evening everyone. I am a newbie here and am hoping to get some help. I have looked over the discussions and don't quite see what I am looking for. 

I purchased a vintage lite at an estate sale.....in the box, looks really nice, didn't seem to have any problems, juice nice and clear, etc. 

I was looking under the cap to find a date as some do, but I found Sept 18, 196 ?(last number missing)

It has blue juice, blue wax and stands approx. 11 1/2" tall (just the bottle without the base.)

The sticker inside the base says use a 40 w appliance bulb which is what was in it. My problem is the wax starts to heat up and looks like stalagtites (one coming from the bottom), then all the wax ends up at the top and will not fall down. After I let it cool, I wiggle it and it all falls to the bottom. I have tried cycling it many times. I have read on other sites to add water, salt, do this or that...but I need real expert advice. I have purchased many in the past years, I keep some, have sold some on ebay.....plus I had a picture fall of my wall and busted a few :(.... what a mess to clean up. This is the first problem lite I have had. Any ideas????? thanks, Cindy

thanks. I can't get the lid off, stuck on pretty good which leads me to believe it wasn't worked on. Yeah, I had to do this before...adding vintage liquid. I may do this. thanks much, Cindy
