Possible cheaper and better solution to the miniworks pump?

I found this on ebay and it looks like it may be a better alternative to the miniworks pump.

What do you guys think? I dont know anything about these pumps but I might get one if its worth it.

Could you clarify your last sentence? I am not sure if you are saying you have lost only mathmos lamps to filtering. Have you had a vintage lava lite die due to filtering?
