ok i added food coloring to one of my lava lamps. made it too dark so dumped it out and now the new the lava melts but does not float. what is in the water? i tried added 1/3 rubbing acholl but did not work.

you should've add the food coloring LITTLE BY LITTLE. Too bad its a secret formula so can't tell you.
You messed up when you dumped the liquid. The liquid is a combination of about five chemicals and every one of them is needed. Lava lamps will not flow with plain water. You can try a saltwater lamp(search the forums for it, I made a how to post) otherwise your screwed. The only other option if you dont want to try saltwater is to completely redo the inside with a goo kit.
For future reference, the water in the globes can be faded by placing in bright sunlight for a few days or weeks depending on how dark they are and the time of year.
