As I mentioned, I would want to know of questionable sellers.
I would think we should consider it to known fraudsters and I mean outright theft.
I've seen situations where one buyer accused a seller of making a home made refill and/or a few other similar scenarios.
My concern is a dispute like that would get lumped into the hall of shame when I know that mathmos has done many custom jobs over the years.
To protect people from being ripped off, it would be wise to warn of eBay ids / destinations and patterns of real fraud events.
but I also think that thread needs to be moderated very carefully.
Seems none of the mods care that this person is still here and still allowed to post. They have known about this issue for YEARS, yet do nothing. One of the reasons I don't visit the site much anymore. It's a waste of my time. If the owner doesn't care enough to fix it, that tells you enough right there.
Wait a minute. What started out as a warniing about a bad situation has turned the flame gun on the moderators.
I for one DO care. But I also think the situation needs the be handled carefully and requires backing from multiple people.
What are the issues are and who is responsible?
Not every thing is visible to the moderator which may tie an ebay id to a forum id to an email.
If you are having continued trouble with a member, then publish the issue or send private notes to the moderators so the awareness can be raised.
I just learned this. Unless it says "delivered" and it's to a confirmed address. You are not always safe.

I suspected he was gone, I had searched for his foot steps.
Paypal is safe for the buyer BUT it is far from safe as a seller. I will expand on this another time.
I would suggest that a Caveat Emptor/Caveat Venditor thread would be beneficial. Not necessarily a "this seller/buyer is a crook" but beware of this buyer/seller and reasons why. The more someones name comes up to beware of would be a good indication of a pattern of fraud/poor etiquette. One or two bad deals do not make someone a crook. Please note, I am not defending Tom or anyone else. I have been here long enough to see how harmful he has been.
Very well said George

So Tom sold the lamp on ebay, and also sold the lamp privately to Ken?.
Is it a bad idea to name and shame these perpetrators to warn buyers especially the new people in the goo community that have no idea about them?
All our experiences would be most helpful to everyone to make us all aware of the sellers that commit this crime and the sellers that attempt to sell lamps that are fake. I agree there are custom jobs , but bath tub prototypes are not made by Mathmos. Twice now I have been fooled into buying genuine lamps by a dubious seller, luckily I asked a Mod here his professional opinion and he provided me with accurate information regarding the so called genuine lamps. I did not go ahead with the sale. I informed the seller that I did not find his lamp to be genuine and he lost it , got a nasty email from him, in this email he stated names off this site and bad mouthed the lot of you. He even used a Mod's name here as a reference that his lamp was genuine as he sold one to them exactly the same.
The seller is a crook and has also been banned from here.
We are here as a community, to discuss and share our experience and help one another, as new people join our community they will look up to us to assist them with answers and to just talk about lamps in general. I find it imperative that we all stick together here and make each other aware of these perpetrators , that take advantage of our passion to make a quick buck and leave you out of pocket and without a lamp.
The only way we can stop these sellers is by not buying their lamps, and informing other buyers to be aware that their sale may be at least suspicious.
If you have a bad experience share it , be honest and tell people the details. Not every bad seller is a crook, some are just bad sellers.
But Tom really has taken the cake.

I would like to see a safe buying/selling tips thread.
Craiglist does not take responsibility for something the seller and buyer should know or be taught.
You can name someone, but the reality is people need to be informed and taught to manage these electronic transactions safely.
Someone as one name, may crop up as another.
