New Lamp no flow!

So I got a new small size Lava lamp for Christmas from a co-worker, and it's not flowing.  It's actually super hot, but the wax just sits at the bottom and wiggles around.  No bubbles, but it doesn't seem to be sticking to the coil at all. I have quite a few lamps but I have never seen one do this!  Please send advice!

I would try and return it. I wouldn't bother trying to fix it. If returning is an option, go for it!
