How do you get metalic goo

Hi Guy's,

I just finished my third homemade lamp and they are turning out pretty darn good!

I love the look of the "metalic" GOO can anyone tell me how I can get that metalic look to my homemade goo?

I am using a mix of 70% bees wax and 30% parafin.

Also I have been using oil pastels to add color but it does not really take, it kind of colors some but most of the pastel stays on the bottom under the goo.

Any help with these is appreciated.

SHARPIE METALLIC MARKER. You will have varied results, the effect works better with some colors than others. Dr. What and Lamphead can give you more info. Sometimes you can get bad results.
As for coloring your wax, try . . . are you ready? . . .

Crayola crayons!!! I added just the tip of a green crayon to an old lamp that had pale wax, it turned it to a nice shade of green. It seems like it may not take very much. As a suggestion I would add less than 1/8th inch of crayon and let it cycle for a couple of days to mix the color (if you are making the wax mixture it would be quicker to melt the wax and crayon together then let cool to see if it is the shade you want). If you are going for a light shade I would suggest starting with less crayon.

I do recall a few years back, on the old board, someone tried to make a lamp using crayons and it didn't work. They use hardeners and other stuff in crayons so I think that's the reason why it didn't work. But as for using crayons to change color of wax, I'm curious to see it if stays or eventually clumps up at the bottom of the globe. If it works I bet using metallic crayons would work too. Keep up posted on the crayons.

The metallic sharpies, like Keith said, are hit or miss. I did have pictures of a 52 oz. that I changed to metallic and 6 months later it didn't look metallic anymore more like floating rocks but it was deleted and gone for good. But i did redo the same lamp with about 4 markers worth of ink and it's still going good.

I made a small lamp today and added a small piece of crayon, it dyed the alcohol and not the wax.

Do I soak the metalic markers in the hot wax or directly in the alcohol? Dr. What your lamp looks great, what is your recipe.
