Oozing Goo - The Lava Lamp Syndicate

Okay, I thought it best to start a whole new thread for this.

As you know, folks are having problems with cloudy LL's.

I have received a very cloudy Grande from Amazon a few weeks ago and was very worried

that another Grande, which I had ordered from LampsPlus.com would also be cloudy.

Well, I just got off the phone with Paula. They are sending me a new globe to replace the

cloudy one. Also, I received the one from LampsPlus today and its fine, nice and clear.

So, here is the story, it was a manufacturing error, NOT a shipping, weather, etc. but a problem

at their factory.

They have corrected the problem some weeks ago and have been shipping the new ones to

their venders, however, some vendors, such as Amazon, may still have the old stock.

If you want to buy a Grande, please buy it direct from LavaLite (or ask your vendor if they have

the new stock) to assure a nice clear Grande.

In other news, the rumors of new colors for the Grande are false.

Anyone who has a cloudy LL should call Paula ASAP to get a new replacement: 1-630-315-3300

I'm so happy now I could pee myself :)

WHAT??????  You were actually ABLE to get Paula to answer the phone?????  I have tried to call her several times and all I get is her voicemail and no return call.  You must have a sexy voice....that's what it is, I bet!
I have only had a problem with her answering emails once and that was when Chicago had the big snowstorm..she has always been pretty great with me.
Wow.  Yeah...it's GOTTA be your voice....GOTTA BE!!!!

LOL!! actually, she has never returned my messages, I just keep calling until she picks up :)

And yes, I am told I have a sexy voice ;)

For the latest developments on my communications with our friends at LL, see my latest posts in the

"Offical Grande owners thread" under general goo.

I agree, they leave the factory clear. What they do not want to admit is that due to the formula they are using

in China, they become cloudy when shipped.

I suspect they changed the formula recently. Older lots of Grande's ship just fine, lots of folks have posted pics

of Grande's that have been shipped around the world, and they are nice and clear.

And its not just the Grande's either, it's ALL the lamps made in China by Lavalite.

I have been contacted by 2 of LL's largest distributors, and they are not happy with this situation.

If they decide to discontinue selling LL's lamps, this will force LL to do something.

Otherwise, they are now sticking notes in the box that says that the cloudyness is a result of shipping, and

normal running for (up to) 10 hrs a day for 3 to 5 days will clear it up.

Cloudy lamps are a shipping Problem. Maybe with an other formula the problem can be fixed, but i believe when the lamps leaves the factory they are crystal clear. Problem is if the lamps are layoing on its side and the water swaps arround in it. My colossus had a long way too.

China -> USA -> UK -> Germany

And it is clear... because the bottle is upright on a pallet.

I was pretty tired of getting cloudy 52oz globes so I decided to have Paula send me 2 of the 14.5" lamps. Wal-Mart has been carrying some but only a few colors.  She sent me the new color combo of Blue Liquid/Purple Lava and then a clear liquid/yellow lava. The yellow/clear was cloudy as I suspected it would be but the blue/purple is nice and clear.  Cap date was 12/18/2010. Hopefully *holding my breath* the shipping problem is close to being totally solved!  To replace the yellow/clear I am hopefully going to get the new combo of green liquid/white lava. I know they don't flow as well as the 52oz but I still dig them!

I'm gonna run to the nearest Spencers and try to pick out a clear 52oz in the meantime.  It seems like things are coming together, albeit slowly. I know some people have some complaints but Paula has been nothing but helpful and has answered every communication I have sent her except during the big blizzard a few weeks ago!

How is the flow of the blue/purple?  I was considering getting one despite the small size, but I don't want to get totally burned on another lava lite product.  I know there's no chance it'll be as good as my 90's lamp, but it would have to be better than the previous china lamps.

I have a "functional" china 52oz, but it's pretty sad, not worth turning on really.  It took me 6 returns to various Spencer's in my area to even get one that at least sends up the occasional blob.

I will have to let it run for a few days and let you know!

Thanks, looking forward to hearing your thoughts.  I emailed lava lite a couple days ago and asked if I would get a lamp that works if I ordered from them, but never got a reply.  Maybe I shouldn't have mentioned my terrible previous experience with their product.

What email address are you using?

If you are having no luck try emailing socialmedia@lavalite.com and explain to them your issue. They will help you out. Out of curiosity are you here in the states?

I just used the "contact us" form on their website.  I am in the US.

I wonder if they would actually give an honest answer to the question of "would I get a lamp that works?"  I emailed them about a year ago when I had to do 6 returns on a Spencer's lamp and told them how disappointed I was in their product.  They said back then that they were fixing the formula and that's what led me to this site.  Here I found out that lava lite more or less says they're fixing the formula every year.  Here we are a year later and people have their hopes up for functioning lava lamps again.  I'd be tempted to ask them what happened to the new formula they told me about last year when I contacted them.  It's really disappointing.

Well it has only been within the past 3 months they have gotten real serious about fixing the formula. For a while I know they kept telling people they were but did nothing. They stopped answered e-mails/calls etc etc   I really believe it may be turning around but I am waiting to see the 52oz globes from 2011 before I make a final judgement.  I would really try emailing that address and go from there, they will definitely ship you a replacement.
