Replacing Mathmos liquid

Hey guys I'm a new member so hello. My question has prob been asked a 1000 times but I have an old mathmos fluidium and the liquid has gone cloudy. This was my fathers lamp and he has recently passed away so I would like to fix it. Is there a special recipe for replacing the liquid?

Turning it on and off has not worked so I fell the only solution is to replace the liquid

Any replys to an old question would be much appreciated

I am no expert and havent tryed this methord yet but it seams simple enough and looks like it has been used on a fue mathmos astros and jets etc http://www.moltenmeditation.com/lava.htm

Thanks for your reply. Yeah I've heard that can happen to the wax. It's an orange vase. At the moment I'm trying to filter it with a brita but it looks like its not that effective so i will filter it many times and see if it gets any better

Perhaps the lava as started to break down over time. If so the liquid will start to get cloudy

That can happen if the lamp is old and has been run many times - it could keep on happening.

My advice is to do a water change and see what happens and it it continues to cloud then maybe consider re doing the lamp using a Goo kit or anougher formula.

Well thanks to the help from the oozing clan (Tim) it looks like I fluked it first time ;-).

Took a lot more salt than I thought. The flow is not the same and it gets very bubbly (Too much soap??) after awhile but looks great (better) than it was. I might look at getting a goo kit as this lamp means a lot to me

Hi all, I had an old jet that was really cloudy and bought it back to life using tap water only.
I live in Leeds which I think has hard water which may have something to do with it working.
If this doesn't work on its own then just add Epsom salts a bit at a time.
Before you resort to the Epsom salts though I'd run clean water through it a few times.
Start of with a cold lamp, pour out the liquid carefully then refill and run it for a hour or two.
Let it go cold again and if it's still cloudy repeat the process.
Mine cleared after three or four cycles.
Then add the salts to get it flowing properly, but not too much at once otherwise you'll have to start again.

You probabley used too much soap - it bakes down the wax so you could redo the formaular or use a goo kit (this would probabley be the best idea)
