Oozing Goo - The Lava Lamp Syndicate

Hello,

I'm very excited at getting a Mathmos Red Flock with Green-green bottle.

The lamp cap is in good condition, the base inner is cracked and a tiny discolouration of the

flocking - but nothing noticeable!  I'm so happy!

The bottle looks like the original - Green liquid Green wax, but the liquid is terribly cloudy, and the wax is looking tired - a few white specks.

1. Has anyone had any success filtering these bottles?

2. Can i check - the bottle bottom is reading Crestworth and seems to have a metal mesh - is this normal?

Any advice welcome, Simon

First of I don't relay know about flocks but I will give it a stab.

I think the globe might be older then the base as it seams as though its a cretsworth bottle instead of Mathmos so that might explain why its not in grate condition.

I don't know why it has a mesh in it but that may because its a original cretsworth one or it may have been a redo by a previous owner and used a mesh instead of a coil.

I would suggest taking out and saving the original water and putting some DI water in there instead, run it and see if it clouds. - If it does then the whole thing is shot, if not then filter the original water and see what happens.

Hi folks,

Thanks for the ideas.  Tried filtering it last night - it's looking much better.

The liquid is much clearer, but is obviously a faded green.

I wasn't so bothered about the bottle when i bought it ... but it would be nice to restore it in some way.

WaggS - i've been very lucky on ebay lately, and also a private collection  managed to get hold of at a very reasonable price.

Mathmos used a mesh instead of coil for a very short time around 1994/1995. didn't work that well so they reverted back to a coil.
