Oozing Goo - The Lava Lamp Syndicate

When redoing liquid from scratch i usually start by just filling the globe with destilled water with a tiny bit of SLES .. Plan was to the add small amounts of glycerin when the wax has heated up so i can get the flow i want, but heres the problem.. It seems that with some lamps, i cant even get the wax to melt ! It can be sitting for allmost 2 hours and still be stiff..

I have even experienced that the wax would the begin to rise stff to the top of the lamp with the coil! Is it because i need to add something to the liquid that would make the wax melt or am i forgetting something other ? I dont really get it ..

Well is the bulb strong enough to create the heat needed for the amount of wax ? depends on how many oz of wax you got against wattage of the bulb ...

cheers

Yes it is strong enough.. It would flow with the liquid that was in it before

You don't need to add something to get the wax to melt it should do it by its self even if there is no water in the globe.

Was the wax melted before you took the wax out as it could be that the wax is completely dead.

What globe is it your working on?

I've gotten the wax to melt now. It just hat to sit for like 5 hours before doing so which is unusual for me.. But i have another problem.. Even with destilled water only all the wax rises to the top.. If i then try to dim the lamp down the wax will not fall only very small blobs sometimes.. I've tried diming it even further untill the point where the wax gets solid again.. Its some china lamp

Have anyone ever seen a lamp where the density of the liquid is actually lower than normal water?

It all sounds a bit wierd to me and not how a lamp behaves at all so mabie its a really strange formular ???

I havent had experance of changing a lamp where the densty of the liquid is lower then water but it sounds like this could be verry solvent based.

Could you upload a picture of the lamp or link to the type as i am intrested to see what it is.
