Oozing Goo - The Lava Lamp Syndicate

I would like to chang the color of the wax in one of my lamps.. The wax should be white, but instead it is some sort of yellow and it looks disgusting !

I've attached a picture showing the color.. Do you think it would be possible to change the color to a gray metallic (like dr. what has done to a grande?) with the wax allready in the lamp? I just dont feel like buying a goo kit, since the shipping is too expensive for me atm ..

The picture does look more yellow than it really is actually

In order to get that nice gray metallic color, you add silver Sharpie markers to the white goo/wax that you get in the goo kit. Since I don't know the "color wheel" that well, I don't know if you could add silver Sharpie markers to the yellowish wax and still get that gray color. I guess if you kept adding silver markers to the yellowish wax, it would eventually become a silver color. To color the wax while in the lamp, I would empty the liquid into another container while the wax is cool and hardened. Put the lamp into a pot of simmering water, in order to melt the wax. Once the wax is melted start adding the silver marker, stirring it as you go.

Sweet, guess i will give it a shot! Now i just need to find some silver Sharpies that doesnt cost too much..

It will most likely have a yellow tinge to it when you add sharpies. It usually will keep the color if the wax is not white, so if you add it to, let's say red wax, it'll will lighten the red and have a metallic look to it. It may look pretty cool with though, maybe a goldish color? Who knows.

How much wax is in there? make sure you add enough metallic ink to it. It took 52 markers for my grande metallic.

Its about the same size as a grande i think .. So i would need around the same amount.. How much did you pay dr. what and were did you get them ?

I got mine in bulk off of ebay, it was like $40 something.

I just did a goo kit on a 52oz. Century and added just 4 Sharpies to the blue dye, and it gave a hint of metallic to the wax. It looks fine, but if I do it again, I will add around 12 -16 Sharpies to a 52oz. for the desired look of metallic. And I want to thank Dr. WHAT?! for his detailed instructions in the "Lava Library" about tackling a goo kit. It seems as though the instructions that come with the goo kit are somewhat vague. I basically tossed the instructions from the goo kit and put the laptop on the kitchen counter and read the "DOCTOR?!"

:) your welcome glad it helps. and yes their directions are way too WTF for me lol. So a easier tutorial was needed. Anyway add 12 markers to the 52 oz. 16 may be too much. I was warned a long time ago, from the one who told me about the silver marker trick, that too much ink will cause the wax to stick to the glass. So I would not over do it. Also I would love to see your metallic blue!!! where be the pics?

Thanks for the info on the ink and not adding too much. I'll get the lamp running and get the pics up. It flows perfectly, and on the first time. I turned it on, and in one hour, it was flowing.
