Is that normal?

Its a lamp that has had HUGE problems.. Cloudy, sticking to globe and not sticking to coil .. And now just out of the blue one day when i turned it on, the 30 watt bulb overheats the lamp so quickly that it doesnt even manage to flow.. at first i thought it was the coil (again, again) but i tried a 25watt bulb instead and then it flows, but its slow ..

Is this normal ?

With everything you have had to do to the lamp to try and correct it, you have most likely changed how it conducts heat, every little step to correct an issue will change the conductivity just a little, so when one little thing is changed it is not a big deal, but when severally things have needed to be changed all the little conductivity changed have amounted to a very large change.

Try a dimmer - set the dimmer to about 3 quaters and see what that does - it may make it overheat for a slower time, then you can dim it down more.

Okay i managed to solve the problem.. It was actually not due to overheating that the wax was hovering above the coil allmost right after it was melted (which i also seriously doubted as it wasnt even close to overheating before).. Turns out it, once again, was the coil it self that was the problem.. So i replaced the coil and now the lamp is working again :)

And i think i've been lucky this time.. Because the lamp looked like something that would never become a lava lamp again.. Just take a look at the photos

Its not perfect though.. It has a very little amount of sticking at the bottom, and as you can tell on the pictures a little bubly wax.. But im gonna live with this and let it run hoping that it will dissapear over time :)

What a trandsformation, its really good - yea leave it how it is, you have changed it enough so its best to leave it before you create more problems.
