I happened upon this totally by accident. I've been doing a lot of experiments with mixing different lava dyes in different amounts, and I totally lucked into this...color changing lava. @_@ When it's cold and solid it's one color, and when it's molten it's another. The two colors never totally mix. That is, they ARE totally mixed, but the cooler areas are one color, and the warmer areas are another. I've replicated it twice now. The first time was with blue, and the second with green.
Here's how they both look when cold:
As you can see, the one on the left looks blue, and the one on the right looks green. I can vouch for the fact that these colors are true in person. When the lava first starts to erupt, it's a different color, but as it cools and solidifies, it changes color right in front of you. It's pretty amazing.
To me, that totally looks like a plant growing out of the ground. LOL!! When they both get going in full flow, they both have changed color a LOT, but still have some of the other color. You can see which areas are cooler, and which are warmer! SO. Awesome. I really wish the blue/purple one showed up better, but irl it really is blue/purple.

interesting
did you do this with goo kit or with original wax?
I intend to try to mix vintage ones. Any idea if it can work?
very nice result indeed
Thanks! :D I know I'm definitely going to try! I'm probably going to try an orange one next. Wish me luck!

That looks awesome! Do you think you can produce more? Or was it a lucky one-of-a-kind accident(s)? I would definitely like to order a blue/purple one! Congrats! That's impressive!
I did these with gookit dye. I've never tried to blend original wax, but maybe if you blended gookit dye with original wax? the key to MT wax working it the translucent-ness that it has, so I'm not sure...
And thank you!

I had a green GooKit that did that once, too. Weird stuff!
Innit? Did you wind up throwing your kit out, or did you keep it? I know the green/purple combo is kinda...well, it looks like motor oil and antifreeze. LOL! But it also kinda looks like watermelon beryl, which I've always thought was beautiful. I'm keeping mine!

Honestly, I am! I have to STOP now though, because these experiments are getting expensive. SO MUCH goo, and several lamps used for all this!
