Oozing Goo - The Lava Lamp Syndicate

Okay I think I want to try boiling my lamp to fix the cloudiness. I have a neon green 52oz and it has been cloudy since day one. I have heard of boiling the lamps to clear up the water, but I don't want to die or ruin the lamp. Can anyone help?

The pics are of mine (on top) vs a perfect one

Where have you heard about boiling to fix a cloudy lamp - boiling a lamp is meant to deal with chunky wax and is known as super heating and is involves having only the wax in the globe.

To fix cloudyness without having to replace the fluid then the best option is to filter it.

Have you got the receipt of the lamp as you could just get a replacement, it seams the newer batch of neons are clear and flow very well considering.

yeah tim is right. boiling will not help. i too suggest trying to get a replacement. i picked up 2 neons from spencers yesterday and they couldnt clearer.

Its all over the net when you type how to fix a cloudy lamp. I am not really sure what the filtering process involves, could someone explain it please. Since the new batch is doing so well I will see if i can get my lamp swapped out

Honestly Cheylynn, there are so many threads on this board about filtering lamps I am suprised you have not yet found one.  Try searching using the words "filtering" "Soldier pump" "Miniworks pump" "MSR" and I assure you you will find several answers.

K thanks a lot

honestly, i would return the cloudy lamp to spencer's and get a new one.

Ya I'd return it

I did return it and the clarity is perfect. The only thing that concerns me is that there seems to be fluid under the wax. When it heats up  the entire things slides up the side of the globe and after like 4 or 5 hours it is for the most part a dome that releases a steady stream of small blobs. I figure that it will work itself out over time as I run it though

run it alot! my green took twice as long to heat up and twice as long to break in as my purple did. run it like 8-10 hours at a time every day till it flows good. mine took about a week but now it has 90s flow.

Okay thanks a lot
