Hello! Newbie here!

Greetings! New UK lava mad lady here! I've been silently reading all that goes on here for a few weeks! Finally plucked up the courage to introduce myself! I've only been collecting lamps for 3 weeks - mostly Mathmos as that is all that tends to turn up here - but a couple of Sata Hunters too. My kitchen is now a fully fledged chemistry lab! I have a huge pile of lamp bases and caps, and I have Perc solution, Polyethylene glycol, De-ionised water, glycerine, glitter, wax, wax dye, food colourings - you name it I have it! I have taken apart other lamps and transferred the contents successfully; changed masterfluid on a copper Crestworth Astro successfully; taken lava and redyed it then given it new masterfluid. Tomorrow I'm going to make a fast flow glitterlite using the tinsel glitter out of a broken Sata and put it into an old Mathmos Jet bottle. Then the next stage will be to try and make my own wax from scratch, so I can completely rebuild old spent lava lamps and breathe new life into them! I've really enjoyed reading up about all the tips on here for lava and glitter restorations. Fascinating stuff!

 

At the moment I have 17 assorted glitter/lava/wave etc lamps. I'm having 14 more assorted lamps sent to me next week so that I can restore or rebuild them and have a play! I will post pics at some point if you like. And thank you for letting me join!

oh very nice, thanks a lot!! the dad of a buddy works in a chemical lab, let's see what we can get...if I can manage to get it I will of course offer it at own cost to at least you two;)

not yet but that shouldnt be the problem. I've never contacted a glitter producing company yet and if I know the fluid and can get hold of it I will be damned if I can't find the glitter! btw if you know metalworkers or so...I have all the specs and detail pics of the old rare crestworth...talking of wall sconce, princess (not the princess on johnnys pic...I mean the big tripod one...about triple lunar size)....just jeed the contact to avoid to go bankrupt on it;) wall sconce is easy..just one bent metal plate, two short metal rods and a metal jet base...an voila ther you have a lamp which only has been seen twice so far ever...at least on this forum.

If I had the flakes and the liquid, I would love to make a Living Jewel bottle for a Lunar.

Is it possible to do it right now by buying 5 or 6 Living Jewel lamps, but it is too expensive for me :-(

also the jewel fluid does expand more. I dont know if its a rumor but I heard of an exploding lunar vase. ther was a lot of seller slagging and bad blood around here about 5years ago so I really
dont know what true but maybe ask johnny, I know he also heard about it and since he has more insight as me maybe he knows details. but I agree, a living jewel lunar would kick ass!!! Did you know the jardiniere glitter vases were called living jewel as well? got a promo pic somewhere...damn I need to find this hdd! anyway, I begin to not really know what I'm writing here coz of drunkness...my suggestion: I'm off to the disco to dance stupidly but happiely and wake up with a hell of a headache and then we'll carry this on on monday:)

Anybody in the UK have access to buddies with  chemicals? Or know where to get the glitter from to replicate glitterlites etc. Living Jewels have another type of glitter - its reflective and slightly rainbow coloured???

I think before anyone tryes to experment with making a fast / solvent based lamp and has an idea of what the chemicals might be the first thing to do is to really look into the legalities of thies chemicals. The last thing anyone needs is the cops to come knocking on a susspusion that your using illeagle chemicals and think your trying to make a bomb or somthing.
