I used a torch lighter to super-heat the bad coil, then dropped it sizzling hot into my container of melted goo. Something about that worked, when nothing else I tried had. The lamp with that coil is working great now!

Was this on an older lamp or as part of a newer goo kit?
The goo is from a goo kit and the coil is out of a LL lamp bought at Spencer's about 3 years ago.
Very interesting, I will have to try that. I have a spring or two that the wax refuses to stick to.
LampHead-I'd love to know if it works on your coils too...would ya post your outcome?
I better warn that if the torch hits the spring too long in one place, the spring may try to contort. Mine did at first, but I jus bent it back like it was supposed to be. But I did keep up the heat anyway, until it got glowing red hot...
I sure will post my findings. I always thought it was some kind of coating on the spring that kept the wax from sticking so torching it makes sense.
