Oozing Goo - The Lava Lamp Syndicate

Found my '92 lite a few weeks ago. had no clue how to fix, was a cloudy, gloppy mess when I heated it up. Was sitting for well over ten years. The pics are kinda self explainitory. Used tap water, epson salts, and Ivory dish soap. Folw if now good, and runs clear.

excellent work!

Thanks Pal, just beginner's luck I figure.

I did find the bubble issue in my particular incident was caused by too much ivory, a little is a lot. Go slow, don't bet in a hurry, and it can happen without a whole lot of fuss and bother.

Hey Cutter! Congrats on the sweet Century Starlite. You seem to have it dialed in nicely. The standard liquid dish soap comes very concentrated so you can overdose your lamp easily. I have started diluting the soap in water to give myself a bit more room to work when adding the soap to the liquid. Also, distilled water would be a more stable and consistent liquid to use compared to tap. Who knows what kind of chemicals your tap water will introduce into your lamp! May the Flow be with you!!

Yup, I found that out about the ivory. I did use distilled the first time out, got it going and flowing good. Like an idiot I was putting it on a shelf base and all while hot and ZIP, the laws of gravity being what they are, the globe slipped off the base and rolled around. I didn't have any more distilled H2O, and was in a hurry, so went with the stuff from the tap. I figure I can super heat the goo before it loses its gooyness a few times at least. Will redo if the liquid gets funky. Plan on making one from scratch next, been bitten by the goo bug. Great fun.

On CFH at cabin, so am limited.
Question:
If the goo loses goo punch, and the only constant in said goo is brake cleaner, would brake cleaner in metered amounts bring goo back up to specs? A goo regenerator if you will.
Oops, I meant wax as constant.
