Oozing Goo - The Lava Lamp Syndicate

OK, so I did 9 oz. goo, topped with distilled water and only did 2.5ml of surf to start.  It's warming up now, let's see what happens!   I colored the goo orange while it was melted prior to pouring.  This should be fun.

I love the colors with the black base :) Im thinking about doing a goo kit on a 20oz is it easy?

Yes, pretty easy.  The measurements are important.  They don't give you much to go on.  I used 9 oz. goo for the 52 oz. lamp, will be plenty of lava.   I triple checked my calculations.

You may need to add a little more surf to it because that small amount you usedmay cause the wax to stick to the glass. The directions are indeed hard to follow, but a while ago I came up with a tutorial showing step by step how to use a gookit. The owner of Magmatower (the makers of the gookit) officially approved it and use it as a link on their website to help their customers. I also listed the surf amounts according to globe size that always worked for me.

So I brought the surf up to 9 ml in my 52 oz and letting it work through.  I also put a dimmer on the lamp.  So I think I'll have to wait another cycle to see what the results are.  Right now it big blobs, 2 or 3 at a time.

Dr What again I'd like to say thanks for the tutorial.  Some of those grandes are incredible!!

No problem Vince and thank you!

Update:  So I am on the third heating.  I now have 13ml surf in the 52 oz lamp.  I'm just getting a goo-dome at the bottom.  I did not dim the lamp yet.  I am getting bubbles in the goo.  It's not breaking up or rising.  I think I might start believing was Jus was saying, that the more surf seems to cut down on the goo action, and less surf breaks the goo up.   It's trying to rise but just not making it to the top nor is it breaking off.  I'm not sure what to do.

The flow seemed to be quite nice before I added more surf...  What do you think?

Here's a couple pics.  First shot shows the goo flowing with a small 2.5ml of surf.  Second shot shows the goo flow with a recommended 13ml (still low) of surf.  The goo kit recommends 10ml surf for 1 qt.  That works to about 15ml surf for my 52 oz.  Yet the flow is lethargic right now.  Not sure what to make of it.

i like the flow in the second photo.  i would just keep cycling it to break it in.

Brad it's just like Jus said.  I am now at 15ml. surf and I shut it off for the day, it's been on all night.  Needs a rest.  Have you observed that cycling changes the flow?

yes, in my experience, cycling changes the flow of the MT wax.  i found this out through frustration - brand new goo kit wax flowed like crap, said aw screw this and turned it off for the night, came back to it the next day, turned it on and the flow was much better.  based on the photos you recently posted, i take it the lamp is flowing better!
