Lamp problems

I have a 16inch lamp in which a large glob of wax stays at the top regardless of heat or cold.  also some wax stays at the bottom.  How do I fix this

Can you post a picture of the lamp? 

Sometimes, you can get the lava back together by gently swirling the globe when the wax is hot (lamp is running). Sometimes now. 

If all else fails, you can pop the top, drain (and save!!!) the fluid and then "boil" the lamp back together on the stove. I had to do this with one of my favorite lamps.

What process do you use to "boil" the wax back together?

It's described in the link I posted. You just put the globe with wax (no liquid) in some boiling water on the stove and the heat from the boiling water will melt the wax back together. Just make sure to keep an eye on the globe the whole time and don't boil it on high for too long. Some people will put a plate in the bottom off the pan so as not to crack the globe.

I recommend the plate in the pan!  Even with the plate, starting out with cold water/cold globe and allowing everything to heat at the same rate, I STILL had a 52oz globe crack on me the other day!  good luck!

My method is to leave a little water in the globe and put it on a lava lamp base with the recommended bulb.  Keep a close watch on it as said.  After the wax has melted together turn off the base and let cool to room temperature.  Do not proceed until the wax is solid. Then replace the original water, reseal and operate normally.
