Oozing Goo - The Lava Lamp Syndicate

I have a Telstar Rocket, clear/turquoise received a few days ago.  It was not hot weather when it was delivered, but after letting it sit for a couple of hours, I turned it on.  Within less than 15 minutes, it spiked a little up one side, but then started shooting dime sized blobs of wax at lightening speed all the way to the top.  Being a rank newbie, I didn't know what to do, but from reading here it appeared it might be running too hot.  I put an inline dimmer on it and slid it down to about 65 percent (just a guess, since this dimmer is not marked), and now it is flowing great.  It takes at least half an hour or a bit more to start spiking now, but after the spikes collapse, it is flowing with long stretchy columns and breaking into large blobs too.  Did I do the right thing?  I sure don't want to fry this lamp!!!   This color is gorgeous, I've never seen anything like it, it looks like neon but a very strange brilliant turquoise. The lamp was a bit hazy at first, but has cleared up now.  Has anyone else had to put a dimmer on their Telstars?  Please tell me I didn't screw it up.

I bought a yellow/red Telstar....being delivered Friday. The more I look at pictures, the more I like it.

But seriously, every time I get a new lamp, my girlfriend gives me the lecture. She says it's bad enough I collect poster art and own over 100 prints I will never even have framed and put on the walls, but at least they're in a flat file and she doesn't have to look at them all the time.....but NOW i'm buying all these lamps and she sees them wherever she goes in the house now, and WHAT THE HECK IS WRONG WITH ME? Lol. I guess she has a point?

So I told her there's a guy on here who just started collecting like 4 months ago and HE already has 100+ lamps......and she says STOP TRYING TO BE THAT GUY!!!!!!!  <sigh>

Hahaha you guy are great xD

LOL, Phishy!!  Tell her that your posters and lamps are "fine" art.  They really are.  I guess that won't help though. Hahaha

Oops, forgot.  I got the yellow/red yesterday and I love it!   I am gonna have to make a place to display these.  The yellow does not show up well with a gray wall behind it.  YUCK.  But the lamp is flowing really well, and the wax is cherry red.  Lovely....

That first picture didn't show up, Keith, but the space shot is awesome!!!   If I get too many more lamps, I might be living in space somewhere like that.  :-)

WOW, I like that one too!  I think the second is my favorite though.  I'm a Sci-fi nut, so really like stuff like that.  And "Lord of the Rings,"  "Star Wars," etc., etc.  If I had a free wall, I'd order a huge shot of that and get my husband to build me some shelves for displaying my lamps.

I LOVE my yellow/red Telstar. Wish it wasn't so damn expensive.......i'd be ordering the clear/black too.

I initially thought I didn't like the rocket shape, but I must admit, it has grown on me.

I love mine too, Phishy,  I really like the rocket shape, and these lamps are perfectly clear. The lava is more fluid than any I have ever seen and flows in great shapes.  I wanted the clear/black too, but hubby has only seen a couple of lamps I have with black goo and both are "milk."  He hates them.   I wonder what the blue/green would look like?

The only other lamps I have seen recently that are this CLEAR and FLUID are (believe it or not) the cheapo plastic $12 "Groovy Lamps" on Amazon.com!!!

Groovy Lamps - Amazon.com

correction....they raised the price to $15 !!!

But the ones I've gotten from Amazon seller GeeksHive are among the clearest globes I have ever seen!

And the flow is actually VERY nice!!

It's just the cheap plastic base that ruins it.   :-(

That's a pure out and out shame that plastic lamps have clear globes and clear fluid when others do not.  It's freakin worth it to me to spend more on Mathmos to get "clear" liquid and not "Night of the Fog."   Wait a few minutes and Amazon will either drop the price again or raise it a buck or two.   They do that all the time, sometimes while I am looking at something.  LOL
