Colossus Lamps available!

Found oozinggoo.com when I was looking for ways to repair the Grande I picked up at CostCo a few years ago.  It's one of the Chinese made ones that has gone extremely cloudy and ceased to flow (going to try replacing the fluid one of these weekends). 

It was here that I found out about really big Lava lamps.  I was bowled over by videos of the  Colossus lamps and really want to see if I could get one, I couldn't find them available anywhere so I wrote LavaLite.  I wanted to let this group know what I got this from Lava Lite today:

Dimmer shrimmer. I have 2 colossi; red clear is great and the purple yellow SUCKS. It's the wax, not the operator.

Mine gets stuck with a 125w heat lamp....

True true ! Snaky columns and blobs curling among each other, when blobs hit the columns the wax ripples. It's like a liquid inside a liquid. Even when my colossus behaves its nothing like a giant. The only flow I've seen that compares is the Fluidium

I noticed that too, but didn't know if it was appropriate to make another one on the new ones hopefully on the way!!

This thread kept me entertained whilst I was "lurking" and just reading before joining OG.

Me too, Marley. As I recall the Colossus thread was just starting when I got onto OG. I came here looking for solutions on how to fix my old Aristocrat after I frigged it up and now I have 2 colossi and over 30 other lamps. Everyone on this site is an enabler!!! LOL

Yes, of course, and so am I. Here's something I didn't see coming: now that the weather is finally warm in Northern New York, I now realize how much heat these things put off! My basement lair used to be the cool summer spot but now it's hotter than upstairs with all these lamps!

Yes, exactly! That many bulbs probably helped the heating bills in the winter. Maybe it will average out!

Speaking of Colossi, I love my red clear, but it's a bit dim especially in a dark room. It really brightens up when it gets a bit too hot and most of the wax comes up off the bottom. Obviously i don't want to run it too hot all the time but I like how bright it gets. I don't have a spot to put it upstairs where it's brighter, so I'm thinking about putting LEDs in the base to brighten up the globe without adding heat. Has anyone tried this yet? I was thinking of adding a switch to the base or just tapping in to the existing wiring. I think they'll stay cool enough if they are at the bottom of the base shining up through the gap around the 250w bulb. Thoughts?

Good point. But I think the amount of light I'd get would far "outshine" (pun intended) the added heat. I could always drop the dimmer a bit.
