Oozing Goo - The Lava Lamp Syndicate

Ladies and Gentleman it is time for America's favorite online lava lamp based game show NAME THAT LAVE LAMP!!!!!!!!! I have two lave lamps that I have not been able to find out very little information it is up to you to say what kind of lamp it is and give any other information you may know such as brand, country of origin, ideal bulb wattage and if their of any particular collectors interest.

Our first lamp is a bullet shaped lamp with clear, maybe a bit foggy liquid and bright red goo, the cap is a crimp style cap

Our second is just the globe, currently on a base meant for a 32oz LL that is not its own, it looks to be very large, has a screw off cap with stars on it.

The Lava Lamp globe is a 52 oz globe, with the black cap it probably came from a midnight century.

The bullet is one of a number of china produced lamps of varying shapes, sometimes they are good lamps and sometimes major problems.  I have one like this that 1/3 of the globe has stuck wax on the sides.

yeah its a princess base, I have the princess globe, which needs some TLC, its just on that warm it up and get an idea how it looks

Thanks both of you, now I need to find that century base.

If you want to search for more information on your china lamp, I believe it is a "lyon" lamp. That century globe looks great.

Thanks Cowmatian, i'm pumped about the century even though its half of a whole, i'm sure i'll stumble on a base after some time.

Here's a Century in pretty bad shape: ( http://www.ebay.com/itm/VINTAGE-70S-GOLD-RED-ORIGINAL-LAVA-LAMP-AS-... ) you might be able to get just the base for next to nothing, and fix the dent. They might not want to sell it in pieces though. It doesn't hurt to ask, and it didn't even get one bid starting at $0.99. The shipping cost could kill the value too.

Cowmatian: Is that a 52oz base? How can you tell, I'd like to know how to figure out for myself.

The shorter top cone, and black ring around the bottom, are both characteristics of the century base. The century is always a 52 oz.

ok cool, thanks.

Also, the screw cap of the old 52 oz bottles are shorter and fatter than the 32 oz bottle screw caps. I had a hard time telling the difference for a while, but you'll get on to it.

Yes, the first one is one of the China-made knock-offs sold by Lyon Design. The first bullet-shaped Lyons were the very first Chinese lava lamps to hit the US market. This isn't one of the early ones, which had a transparent, colored plastic tip on the cap. Sorry to say, I have no idea what bulb it takes, but I'd be surprised if there wasn't a sticker either inside or under the base. No more than 40 watts, maybe as low as 25.

It probably takes a 35w reflector - quite typical especially with china lamps (i.e. peace lamps).

Do Lyon Design still make lamps - I had no idea who were the ones making / commissioning the lamps, the most info I can find on producers / designers of cheap china lamps are the importers etc.
