if you're an avid eBayer, NOS should really get your blood pumping, or at least your ebay trigger finger clicking.
maybe some of you saw this on ebay a week or so ago, but i ended up winning a new in box silver century with a blue/white globe. i've never won a NOS lava lamp auction before, so i figured i would post some pics of what a century looked like when it came out of the box, new.
when i opened the box, the cardboard was very stiff when it bent, so i knew it had to be new. the base was still in a plastic wrapper, and it appeared that the box containing the globe was opened maybe once just to verify its contents.
i'll let the photos explain the rest, but i figured i would post this in case someone else wondered what a century looked like when it was brand new, only 18 years later. i assume this is a 1995 lamp, which means that i was in 9th grade when this lamp was released.

Nice...that brought back some memories for me. This was my 1st lava lamp. Bought at a place called Service Merchandise, no longer in business. Are you planning on using it? Will be interesting to see how it flows after sitting so long.
i remember service merchandise for sure.
it's warming up right now so i will post pics when it's flowing.
Awesome! I have one from the same era. One of the best lamps that I have.
that original light bulb still works! i really feel like i'm stepping back into the 90's.
thanks kirk! the flow is perfect. you would not know that this lamp has been sitting for 18 years. i believe the seller mentioned that it was kept in a temperature-controlled environment, so i'm sure that helped. i will try to get some photos this evening.
Wow, Brad, that is gorgeous!!! I've always wanted a Silver Century, now I'm "coveting" again......ah oh.....Congrats, it is beautiful! ;-)
its like opening a time capsule it really is amazing - doesnt get any better.
I reckon someone got it as a gift and dident like it so just stored it away for yonks, then it was found and put on ebay. was that the kind of feel you got from the auction.
It really shows how well the USA / quality lamps can be - you just wouldn't get that with a china lamp
thanks all. it truly was like opening up something from my childhood. the lamp flows like champ. it is a true statement to the quality of lamps lava lite was putting out in 1995.
i contacted the seller on ebay to inquire, and they said that the lamp came from a doctor who liked to buy things and stockpile them without ever opening or using them. he passed, so they are selling a lot of items like this. lots of interesting stuff!
L-R: heritage century on century base, "new" 1995 century, 1995 century on heritage base (working on this one).
WOW ABSOLUTELY WONDERFUL ! I think this is what we all really strive for here ! and yes Lala the kitty is the perfect touch ! I wanna snuggle the little furball !!
yeah the cat just decided he wanted to be in the photo. he's a snuggler for sure.
i just think it's awesome that this lamp sat for 18 years and flows like it should right out of the box with absolutely no issues. the lamp on the right is from the same year but was obviously used. i'm trying to get the bubbles out of the wax by running it, but i'm not sure if it's going to work. it definitely needs to run on a dimmer, else it overheats within an hour.
