I found this on another thread somewhere a while ago and ended up ordering a few for my lamp-building projects. The glass is perfect; no air bubbles or "warbles". Each comes with a coil as well. The post I found this link on suggested that the globes are 52oz but they are, in fact, 32oz. Anyway, for the price (not to mention $5 shipping) this is a pretty good deal, especially if any of you gookitters have extra product.

It's funny; I ordered these and a gookit on the same day. I got my globes within 4 days and here (2 weeks out) my gookit has yet to arrive even though shipping was 80% of what I paid for the kit lol Here's hoping the kit arrives soon so I can get to work on these projects!

They used to carry both the 52 ounce and 32 ounce globes, but must have sold out of the 52 ouncers.  I have been to a couple of their locations and the store is very funky, quirky and eclectic... bordering on bizarre to an extent.

The reason they are perfect bottles?  This is the US stock that Lava Lite unloaded when they shifted operations to China.

Oops, thanks Erin! I wasn't sure if I got the "linking" process down. 29 years old and can't work a forum properly, tsk tsk.

I wish they still had 52oz bottles since all of my bases (not to mention measurements) are for 52oz (making testing easier) but I'm pretty excited about having some size variations.

52oz bottles would be nice. Even better if they were screw cap. Then again, you can get 52oz. lamps at Spencer's for $20 and dump them, so that's not too bad of a price if you want to experiment.

That's actually what I initially planned to do prior to finding that site... and will most likely do once I try out the gookit. You can't beat $20 a pop lol

I contacted sci plus to see who the manufacturer of the bottles is. They were unbelievably helpful. They said that they knew they were made in the USA, and would contact their vendor to find out about the manufacturer. I was thinking maybe the manufacturer has some of the old screw cap bottles too left over. If not, they might still have the mold for the screw cap bottles, so maybe I could have a small run of them made. I'll just have to see what the manufacturer says.

I'm tellin ya, I do believe this was old stock from Lava Lite, ditched when they picked up shop and moved operations to China.

Cowmation, way to go on taking the initiative! Please do share what you find out! I would have never have thought to contact them about their supplier. And Jim, I hope you are wrong... only because it'd be nice to have a steady supply. On the other hand, I hope you are right because that (to me as an artist) makes me feel like my projects are made with superior materials, something I always strive for.

Do a site a search on "American Science and Surplus" - others share my opinion.  It does suck, cuz when they're gone, that means gone for good.

Makes sense though - these are lava specific globes (i.e. includes a coil).  Who else would provide such a bottle?

That's what I was wondering... I didn't think they would arrive with coils but, sure enough, they did.

Yes these are the old ones from lava lite, but I was trying to find out who actually made them for lava lite it the first place. The manufacturer may still be operating in the US.
