Did you see how much ebay is taking now?
10% fees including on shipping cost (and I don't mention the 4 or 5% they're taking on paypal fees after).
That is a steal!

I'm pretty sure you were being sarcastic by the statement "That is a steal".
But yeah, they are claiming a good chunk of the prices paid. Did you know they have stopped offering free fixed-price listings to non-store owning members? Not only that, but the recent changes to Google search (Panda 4.0) has made it to where Ebay items may not even show up in google shopping results at all-or if they do, it's probably not as high in the results as it used to be. Also, their "Spring Seller Update" introduced many controversial changes which reportedly will make it even harder for sellers to attain/maintain top-rated seller status.
These things, plus some others, are why I'm putting my items back on Etsy! And perhaps Bonanza. Ebay will be my LAST choice, unless they make significant changes!
Don't like it? Don't use it. You are paying to access their market of buyers. I know I made more money selling on ebay than I would have made off of etsy or craigslist.
Autumn, you're right, it is still the best place to reach a big market, and it is normal to pay for this service, but paying a fee on shipping cost? It is like paying a tax on money you don't earn.
I really don't like that.
Problem, there is no good alternative...
It is because people were posting auctions with crazy shipping fees and low bid prices to avoid paying ebay fees.

Yeah the shipping fee charge it stupid. This definitely doesn't help when you sell something for lets say $5.00 and with $15 for shipping. You end up making like $1.00 on that item. Its stupid. The only time ebay seems to pay off these days is if your item sells for a good amount.
I've cut way back on ebay due to shipping costs. It used to be reasonable but lately ridiculous. I've noticed many sellers adding extra charges to shipping cost even though I know that shipping should be much less. You can buy an item on ebay for 5.00 and pay 35.00 to have it shipped. No thank you anymore. There are a lot of lava lamps I'd like to add to my collection but the shipping costs kills the thrill. Thank you for letting us know. I was thinking of selling on ebay. Now that I know what the site charges...NOT!!!
Bonanza? I know about etsy which I think is too expensive most of the time and finding good deals are rare on the site. However, I'm not familiar with Bonanza and I'm headed there now. Thanks for new website. EBay's getting OLD already. You no longer get good deals anymore.

agreed - not many good deals on ebay anymore. i remember the mantra back around the year 2000 was "you need something cheap? get it on ebay." i just got hit with the 10% fee on a recent sale and it caught me by surprise. i won't be selling on ebay again until they reduce their fees. furthermore, the amount of obvious shill bidding is ridiculous. when you're outbid by someone with a feedback score of 3 and all of their recent bids are with that seller with one retraction, it's pretty obvious.
uhm...i wish it was to me...splain it? But iv'e seen Casino 3 times & still don't get the whole racket thing. Even tho the guy explains it every step of the way..
hey jus - are you asking what a shill bid is? it's basically if you were to sell something on ebay but also bid on the item with another account to drive the price up.
This is why I invested in eBay stock way back in 1998 - they have the critical mass. All the other auction sites came and went (remember Amazon Auctions?). No other site had the customer base and bids never got as high. As a seller, I would never sell in another place if I have an item actually worth something; a collectible.
I wish their fees were lower, but they are a publicly traded company and they have to always be increasing their sales to satisfy the stake holders. It's a vicious cycle.
