Was wondering this. I was THINKING, just THINKING, lol.....that if I were to order a Grande from Walmart.....they have free ship to store pickup, so the lamp ends up costing 93 and some chump change. Couldn't one examine said lamp at store and if cloudy, get a refund right then and there? Or say I take it home and it clouds up. I would probably keep it and kit it, but I was just wondering if anyone has done this. At least it would be free shipping and if one weren't satisfied, you wouldn't have to worry about shipping it back. Also, I think Spencer's will take returns from their online shipping at their store, but I would call and verify this before I ordered one. Still hanging in there hoping maybe ebay will have a cheap cloudy one that I can buy just for a kit........
Also, is it still a crap shoot ordering these lamps? Is ordering it from one place better then another. LIke ordering it from LL seems more expensive. They want 30 something dollars just to ship. But do you get a better chance of getting a better lamp, or it pretty much doesn't matter???

I haven't done what your saying but it does sound like a good idea as you don't have to worry about shipping it back as that can almost be pointless due to the costs and time etc.
I don't think that its bad idea ordering the lamps online, the thing is you cant check it like you could in store but then again you could still get a duff lamp from the store. We really shouldent play this hit and miss game but what I would say would be to get most of the lamps from store and those you cant find in store get offline and hope it dosent cloud up during transit.
I know Tim, it's ridiculous that we have to do it this way. And it also depends on where it is coming from, but I hear the heat is going to be building again in certain states so I may have a better chance of a clearer lamp being shipped in the colder months. Someone that left a rating on one of the grandes on one of the shipping sites, maybe it was Amazon, did say that he had his lamped shipped and when it was delivered it was ice cold. He let it get to room temp, then fired it up. He attributed his lamp being clear due to the fact that it wasn't shook up being warm in a hot truck. The good thing is, if I open it at Wally World, lol, and it's craptastic, I can tell them on the spot, I refuse this lamp and I want a full refund right now. No sweat off my brow to worry about shipping costs, packing it up, yada yada.......so maybe a nice xmas pres to myself this year. Than again, they may be scarce around the holidays.
If you have Amazon Prime most of their grandes ship free and tend to be cheaper than almost any retailer I have seen. I have ordered two from them, yellow/purple and a Heritage pink, both lamps are perfect. I am also able to comment on the return of grandes to Amazon being painless as well, haha. The first yellow/purple I received must have had some weird metal expansion while I was running it. Lazing around I heard it make a deep thud after about 7 hours on. Kinda creeped me out, got on their chat and told the guy it made a weird noise maybe I should swap it out as I don't want it to explode on me. He actually laughed after he reviewed the item in question and said "yea that doesn't seem too soothing as the item listing states. I will send out a replacement right now". Figured out the bottom of the base was under a little bowed expansion and was just popping similar to an unsealed jar lid.Replacement showed up, it was flawless as well. Of course I had to do a side by side to determine which one would be getting back on the plane, I mean, might as well right?
Good to know Vox!!! I think it's time to start a little nest egg for the grande under the tree present to ME!!!! lol!!! I just hope my dogs don't think it's a fire hydrant and pee on it!!! I have to watch my little guyz.....anything new in the house is fair game. Like "hummmm, something new, ok, well, it's in MY house, so.....gotta mark it"!!!! Have to build a shelf or find a cool spot for it.
There you go! Spoil yourself, get each color of Heritage! My cats tend to do the same, aside from marking them. They turn the boxes into pillars to sleep on and hunting blinds for sneak attacks on one another. If you have a low traffic corner in the room they look pretty sweet on a plant stand. Brings them up a bit higher than an end table and kind of becomes an extension of the lamp. I have one of mine on this funky old wooden stand that sits about 3.5-4ft high at one corner of the couch. I would definitely go with hardwoods or metal, a wide stance on the stand legs is best as well. The poor mans Princess/Imperial!
Do it Carol!! Very happy with my green heritage grande and really want to get the pink also.
One thing about redoing a grande is getting the metal cap sealed. The one I redid is sealed but not like I would like. I had to buy a 3" to 5" clamp and LEAVE IT ON. I don't think anyone can tell by looking but I KNOW it's wrong!!

Ya know, I do have a nice corner and guess where??? Right at the foot of my bed!!!! Used to be used by my german shepherd as his "den", but then when he hit 100 pounds, he got stuck there one nite and never went back!!! So it's like my bed stops, there's inches of space, then the wall. If I get a stand tall enough it will be seen through my bedroom window at night!!! That would be sooo cool!!! I luv making all the neighbors jealous with my xmas and Halloween decorations and lights, imagine a grande in the window??? HAAA!!! I would cover it in the day time though to keep the sun off of it. Can't hang window coverings in my room because the shepherd shreds anything that covers the window when he goes into "protection mode"........may look into those uv shields, but I think they're pricey. WOW, I really got off track. Back to the Heritages. I really like the pink and the green.......I don't think they have them on the Target site though. Aren't that exclusive through LL?
They started out as LL exclusive. Maybe let Amazon sell them to speed up sales?
just an FYI, target has their grande lamps 15% off of list price, plus using TGT4QBJF gives you $5 off. they do free in store returns and with a 2 year warranty plan for $7 and free shipping
That code apparently ends on the 6th
I took the leap and ordered 2, ill let you guys know how it works out...
They did ship today too.
So I paid under $84 and I think $86 for the other with shipping 2 year warranty and the whole deal
Joe, you're the guinea pig!!! lol!!! I'm waiting because 1: Fundage and 2: it's really hot and I normally don't like lamps shipped in the heat. Although I had my 2 vintage ebay scores shipped in June and it was REALLY hot that week!! My blue swirl was hazed pretty good, but now it's crystal clear. It took a few weeks of running it. The Enchantress came clear.
oh now come on people!!!! Now i'm gonna have to jump in, lol!!!!
Both my grandes will arrive monday,
They shipped from Hebron, KY and are in Secaucus, NJ
I'll let you know then how they look.
I also got the warranty info, they do straight replacement or refund of money for your lamp :)
