Oozing Goo - The Lava Lamp Syndicate

I'M SO DONE WITH SPENCERS LAMPS - LOOK AT THIS TRASH!!!!!

So I see they have 2 orange/black 52 oz'ers in stock which I originally wanted the last trip I made but they were out of so I got the pink/white.  I think WOW I got Halloween lamp.  1st one had white fluff in it and what looked to be like metal pieces on top of the what is supposed to be jet black lava.  Open tube 2.  Same issue.  Ok, so I see a green/black.  I figure oh well, I kind of wanted that color too.  Open up the ONLY green/black, sales guy says, "same thing"!!!!  Now another member of OG just got 6 or more lamps at his Spencer's in Pennsylvania and they were fine.  So, I'm sending the pics to Spencer's HQ along with a not so nice email that this is my 3rd trip of 1 1/2 hour drive only to look at lamps that have MAJOR issues.  Also, I'm forward a cc to Susan at LL.  This is ridiculous.  I'm making my own from now on.  Oh and the globes looked like starry starry nite too!!!  Look at these pics!!!  What even is this??

I just assume that something will be wrong with any lamp I get. I just hope that it is fixable. I've been forced to get pretty good at replacing liquid. Most of my lamps work reasonably well now after a lot of fiddling around with them. I swear I have never seen quality control this bad on a non-knockoff product before.

I know Chipmunk!!!  It's so sad and really heartbreaking when I have to walk out of my Spencer's after being all psyched up to get a new lamp, especially after an hour and a half drive!!!  But as you can see from the pics, I didn't wanna run one of those lamps with that white "fluff" in it.  I just knew it would cloud up.  Now that I look at it, I wonder if that is just wax that collects up, but then again why is it white if the wax is already colored?  Maybe it's wax that has to run and combine with the colored wax to get completely saturated with the dye???  I wish I knew the answers to what was in those lamps because it really is mind boggling.  I have done a bit of goo-kitting and honestly it's not that hard to keep foreign materials from getting into a lamp and I own 5 dogs!!!  Ok, ok, I did have a dog hair in one of my lamps but white fluff, come on!!!  I've never ordered a Spencer's lamp online but the guy that works there did say that the majority of returns are lamps that were received online.  You CAN return them at the store.  I also just received a nightmare 2 lamps from ebay that weren't packed right and the bases came bashed and mashed, so I really am careful from now on where I buy my lamps.  I am getting one from one of our fellow OG members!!!  At least they know how to ship!!!

I think whatever they are using to get their fluid to specific gravity is condensing from a constant heat/cold cycle.

My grandes had that but idk if that really means anything because they are my best flowing lamps. two others had that, but the rest didn't. so IDK. Doesn't LL come on here at all to give responses?

Should I just send them an email asking what it is?

Run the lamps. The white stuff will recombine with the rest of the wax. I've had this a couple of times and it was never a problem.

This sucks...so maybe I should have gotten the orange/black for Halloween!!!  I'm just so sick of having to take back lamps......

buy one now, take it back in november

Fire em up!!! They look fugly but will look great once you let them flow.  Most lamps arrive like this.  I had several and they all look great.  I'm glad you supplied a photo of the lamps. Color wise they just don't look as good as they do in photos.  Actually look lame.  Now I'm not going to buy.  I was thinking of getting two orange and two green and black.  Not anymore.

I got this one for my birthday delivered from Spencer's Gifts online store. This picture is before the 1st run and it runs and looks great.

I also am not a fan of the flow of the china lamps after seeing how my goo kitted and my vintage lamps flow!!!  Now I'm a bit spoiled, I'll be the first to admit.  I'm not a fan of the wax balls that just kind of float around.  I like the snake, column effects more and I'm just not getting much of that in the newer lamps.  My son's 52 oz neon green does have a decent flow though.  It takes long to get going in his room because it's a cooler environment, but it's pretty good.  My new 52 oz purple/yellow isn't the greatest, but it's in the beginning stages of it's runs, so maybe it will "break in".  I'm probably fast asleep when it gets going because that one too flips coil and takes awhile to heat up!!!

Oh and sorry for the double post, but I think i'm going to have to agree to disagree here.  I do not think these lamps should look anywhere remotely close to these pics.  How is the lava lamp consumer supposed to know that this is going to clear up????  Anyone that see's this would be like "huh", "what is that"?  I've never seen metallic things or white sediment floating around in any of my other new lamps, so I instantly thought it was a no good lamp.  I'll even go one better.  The Spencer's sales rep put those lamps aside for return because he also was scratching his head like, "yeah, this is terrible"!!!  He even used the word, "TERRIBLE"!!!  So, if the person selling the lamps can't attest to their quality??????  I'm really out on the cuff here as far as these lamps looking like this new...........I know we are taking a back seat to quality here, but come on....i'm not driving almost 2 hours to have to return a lamp the very next day like I had to with my 52 purple neon.  My husband was ready to kill me, lol (not really, I was more aggravated then him).........it's sort of like a 50/50 thing.  50 percent it MIGHT work....50 percent it won't!!!

So much for the replacement!!!  My replacement needs a replacement....well, not really, but flippen coil!!!

I know. I got lucky with my Orange/Black. Did you see how much better it looked than those ones you posted. My Starship 2 came today and I got lucky, it's fine. But wait until you see the 13" Clear/Black! I let it settle from shipping until tonight I ran them both for the first time and Cloud city. The white crap streams like smoke clouding the liquid. I noticed my Chinese Rolling Stones Clear/Red doing that too. Cloud up while they run clear up when they're off. It's a shame the quality these days!
