Why do I have a chunk of wax stuck at the top of my lamp?

First time posting and I'm rather a novice when it comes to diagnosing lava lamp problems, so I'll ask the crowd here. OK so my brand new lamp took a spill, but only dropped a couple and landed on carpet without even a scratch. However, afterward no matter how long I give it to warm up I still have a chunk of wax floating at the very top. Why? And what can I do about it?

One thing to try is to heat the lamp until the wax at the bottom is liquid. Then turn the globe upside down, allowing the liquid wax to contact the wax stuck at the top. Let it cool, then reheat the globe.

I had the same problem with a Disney lamp

Rock solid and stuck on top

I used a blow dryer you use for your hair (NOT a heat gun)

I slowly melted it (keep relocating the air stream) until it broke loose and floated to the bottom

This seems to be a result of too hot of a lamp

Either put a dimmer on it or use a lower wattage bulb

I do believe it is from running too hot.  I fell asleep with a pillowcase over my clearview trying to get it to flow and when I woke up a few hours later the whole wax puck was floating at the top.  Luckily once it cooled and I gave it a gentle spin it did sink back to the coil.....
