Oozing Goo - The Lava Lamp Syndicate

I just recently found out about a minor problem with a Grande that I goo kitted for a friend a year ago. I texted him the other day asking how his lamp was running, and he said, "Great, but the rubber stopper keeps popping out every time I run it!"

The metal cap that went over the gasket when we were opening up the globe got destroyed, so we never put it back on. Do any of you have a good method you use to keep that rubber thing from coming out of the globe during operation? I'd love to hear any suggestions.

Thanks!
