Oozing Goo - The Lava Lamp Syndicate

Hi guys! I am having a small problem with my lamp. This is my first one so I don't know if this is just the way this lamp is or if I'm doing something wrong.

The wax in my lamp rises in small bubbles, about 1-2 inches in diameter and then mostly just stays at the top. So it looks like this: About 4/5ths of the wax is at the top of the lamp like this.

How do I fix this or is it not even a problem? Thanks :)

How long does it take for the wax to collect at the top like this?

It definitely looks to be running hot, just wondering if there is a time of more normal flow.

Maybe about an hour and a halfish. And I have not seen it give me any normal flow.

Its probably running too hot - try putting a lower wattage bulb in it or using a dimmer.

It should take longer then an hour to overheat so it seams as though its just overheating.

Thanks guys i played with the dimmer switch and it looks a lot better now!
