I screwed up my goo I think. I added a 2x the perc by accident. Can I save the goo? Maybe boil off the perc somehow? I cant get the goo to dome no matter how much salt I add. The first 5 tries worked perfectly.Supposed to be 1/4 to 1/3 perc but I think I put in 1/2 perc.

I boiled off some perc and added some lamp oil and now im back on track.
Mmh, isn't the perc difficult to handle?
It doesn't sound very healthy, what kind of security arrangements do you recommend?
Gloves, gas mask, exhaust hood?
You can buy 1 litre of 99% perc for 40 Euro on ebay, but I am not yet convinced that I could handle it properly, without poisoning myself (and my whole flat)...
Its sold as break cleaner in Walmart and Auto stores. It recommends to use outdoors with ventilation. I cant see it being any worse than Acetone. Don't smell it or breath it. Its like anything else. If you watch adds for Medicine on the TV you wouldn't take any because of all the problems it can cause. Main word being CAN. Try inhaling gasoline for a while.
Use precaution, in a well ventilated area

Not nearly as bad a gasoline.
I would use it in a well ventilated shed or patio, not in the house with my family. I don't use gasoline in the house either.

In Germany you only get Breaklin or other Break Cleaner without Perc, i bought my Perc from S3 Chemicals over Amazon, 250ml 17 €.
Sean:
The recipe I used was the same as what is published on this forum, except they used 1/3 brakelein.
I have continued to experiment. The first 2 came out ok but I too had the same problems on latter attempts.I have let the wax goo and poured off the white stuff and its getting less.
I found that the goo I made was much harder then the goo I removed from the original large lamp. It had a firm surface but when I pushed it with my finger it mounded up like hard peanut butter. So I added about 2 tablespoons of petroleum jelly to mine which seemed to do the trick and made the wax softer like the original goo but too early to determine if it gets the white stuff. I also tried some with lamp oil kerosene. Im thinking the quality of the wax. Most likely cheap paraffin wax is more the problem.
Now my problem is it gets cloudy the more salt water I add. It could also be due to the fact I colored the wax with florescent dyes and it lights up the water and shows all the small particles. Running through a filter doesn't seem to help.
This weekend I will measure the specific gravity of the original goo and what Im making and try to match them.
Today I got a Chinese lamp off Ebay that's cloudy. I will measure the specific gravity of that fluid also.
I have Friends in Germany and ordered a rocket one off Germany's ebay and I will get it in a few weeks. I do not know if my friends will empty the liquid or not yet. It was also cloudy on order.
Some new information:
Today I got a Chinese Lamp with cloudy liquid and Blue Goo.
I have an alcohol Specific gravity float that I used to make some measurements. I can only accurately measure to 985.
All measurements approx. There defiantly is a difference between Chinese and the old goo. The Chinese lamp liquid has no smell. The goo floats 1/2 on top and 1/2 on bottom with just distilled water.
Chinese Lamp
Goo = < 995
Liquid = 999
Grande Lamp
Goo = 1010
Liquid = ???
My old Goo mix = 1015
My old Liquid mix = 1030
Still trying to get a good working lamp.
My Wax with Vaseline Just mixed
Goo = <995
Liquid = not determined yet
Mixing with Goo
Vaseline = 0.82
Lamp Oil = 0.92
Mixing with water.
Di water = 1001
Rubbing Alcohol = 0.8
I have friends in Germany and bought an Old Rocket Lamp off Ebay its on the way soon to examine.
.
Last night I got the Chinese lamp to flow as good as new. Some wax was floating and some at the bottom in water. I first put a couple squirts of Perc in the floating wax until it sank while the lamp was on. Then after it ran an hour, I added a little salt water and a few drops of soap and off it went. Then over the next 4 hours I fine tuned it and let it run for about 4 more hours.the Chinese lamp has the bulb right up to the bottom of the bottle and the rest the bulb is about 2-3 inches away.
Now working on my goo mix again. I added petroleum jelly to get the specific gravity closer to water just so it starts to float.
