Mathmos Jet - rewire

Anyone re-wired a Mathomos Jet?

I've got a plug converter (this kind: http://www.amazon.com/International-Power-Adapter-Plug-Converter/dp...) and I was just going to plug it in, but I dropped the base and the bulb doesn't work now.

If I re-wire, how does the base come out? I see there are two clips on the underside holding the socket it, but it looks like those would break if I tried to take it out that way.

If I want to just keep it as-is, where in the US would I get bulbs for this? And if I re-wire for the US, what wattage bulb would I run?

Any help would be greatly appreciated. :)

I am still working on it! It has been turned off and disassembled! Any help would be appreciated.

I would not run the lamp anymore with that conversion, electricity is the last thing you want to mess with. You also could damage the base by melting it with that wattage bulb without a dimmer. Let me know if your still working on this lamp and I will post up a safe and proper fix tomorrow, there are several options available.

OK you have a few options here for conversion but im going to go over the 2 most common and easiest without using a dimmer..

# 1 - You can remove the UK cord from the socket and replace it with a US cord and use this bulb.. http://www.bulbman.com/index.php?main_page=product_bulb_info&pr... The lamp would be ready to run at this point.

# 2 - You can leave the entire lamp intact and use this plug converter.. http://www.radioshack.com/product/index.jsp?productId=3932601 and the above bulb.. http://www.bulbman.com/index.php?main_page=product_bulb_info&pr... The lamp would be ready to run at this point.

There is no simple way to convert these lamps if you do not use a dimmer, finding 30 watt US based bulbs that will fit is impossible. I have found the easiest way is to convert to US based socket, cord and 40 watt bulb and run it on a dimmer ( I run multiple converted lamps on the same dimmer, they each do not need a separate dimmer). 40 watts on the plastic Jets without a dimmer is asking for trouble, never use any type of glue or tape to hold electric parts together. You should be 100% safe when doing conversions and never cut corners. Do not break any parts on the lamps like you did with the tabs on the socket, a 12 cent washer would have done the same job without breaking the original socket. When I get the time I will try to post up a full list of conversions with pictures as there are several different ways to convert these lamps with different parts.

Well, it looks like I've made some mistakes.

I have demolished the original socket and the base, so that's out.

Thanks for your advice Jim. The part I'm missing are those lamp washers. I have the screw things (actually called nipples - weird, huh)?. So I'm close.

As for those dimmers, do you wire those directly into the socket?

I am going to rewire the green Fluidium I just aquirred. I was wondering if anyone knows what are the names of the highlighted pieces and what sizes I need please. Fluidium photos coming soon. I need to run out and get a UK adapter.

Would this work since the whole fixture comes out of the base?

Not sure. It's been several years since I did this. The only concern I see is that socket fitting through the hole in the base since it's all one piece.
