Oozing Goo - The Lava Lamp Syndicate

Hi all.
I am new on here and hope you can give me a bit of advice.
I have recently bought my first lava lamp which is a hunter sata-lite.
The lamp is in really nice condition now i have rewired and cleaned it up. I have had it on and off for a couple of days and have noticed that that although the wax moves really well the water is somewhat cloudy and i can see very small bits of wax floating around.
Could i just run the liquid through some filter papers into a clean jug and if neccesary top up with a bit of distilled water.
I also plan to run some distilled water through the bottle before putting the liquid back in.

I know the cloudy issue has been answered before but thought that i would just check that what i am going to do is right.

I will post up some before and after pics.

Thanks.
